Eclipse

On Monday, we woke up and we went to Chester, IL. We made trail mix for the car and I loved it. We went to a baseball field and set up a one-day camp that we didn't even sleep in.

It was REALLY  HOT!  We explored.  There was a lady from the Museum of Science and Industry that was doing science experiments.  Two campsites down from us, there was a guy who had a telescope.  He let us look at the projections from it.

We made pinhole projectors and had glasses, but the telescope helped a lot.

Then it was time for the whole reason we came.  A total solar eclipse!!  An eclipse is when the moon goes in front of the sun.

First the moon goes in front just a little bit.

Then, some more.

This is totality, when the moon is exactly in front of the sun.  It started to get colder, and we heard crickets chirping because they thought it was nighttime.  The thing around the moon is called the corona, and it's pretty.

Then the sky got light again and the sun started to come across out the other side.

 And then some more.

I loved the eclipse.  It was the best first day of school ever.
